Its 6am, the rain is torrential, and we are currently loading most of our stock into our truck for the One Fine Day Wedding Fair tomorrow. As far as days go, this is certainly far from a fine one!
The yard has turned into a soupy mess of mud. Paul is hastily tying to re-pot two of our massive mature Kentia Palms. The dye from Sam’s soaked hat has run, and now his face is bluey green (which is actually pretty funny – he looks like a smurf)! Meanwhile, Emilie and I are playing a game of plant Tetris in the truck. Ever have one of those days where you wished you had just stayed in bed??!
Fast forward 12 hours, and things couldn’t be more different. We’re at the Australia Technology Park, having just put together our stand. The backdrop is two Superior Green Walls and a Pot Plant Wall. Our shiny new Pop-Up Gardens sign takes pride of place in the middle, and looks fantastic! A big selection of our potted tropical plants, succulents, and some pretty lanterns add the finishing touches.
We have also styled the Gallivant and Chambord VIP Area with a selection of our biggest tropical plants. Three meter tall Kentias are complemented by Birds of Paradise, Monsteras, Golden Cane Palms and Philodendrons. The exotic tropicals look amazing with Gallivant’s styling – lots of colourful orchids, pineapples and flamingos – love it!
Katherine and Tim, another husband and wife team, were an absolute pleasure to work with, and we were delighted to be able to give them some beautiful Fatsias and Viburnums for their own Gallivant Events stand as well.
You would think that was quite enough work for one (fine) day, but you would be wrong. We also set up four beautiful new planter boxes with Raphiolepis “Snow Maiden” and Lomandra ”Lime Divine” at the back of the bridal runway, and some Fiddle Leaf Figs, Cordylines and Peace Lilies in the hair and make-up area.
It’s time to head home, and chill out for a while before another early morning for the fair tomorrow.
Its 6am again, Emilie is on her way to the flower markets with our florist Annika, and I am heading back to the ATP. Paul and Sarah are in Hawaii, having flown out yesterday on a family holiday, so it’s a small crew today. I am pleased to report that the weather clear and sunny this morning, and One Fine Day may just live up to its name!
8am, and Emilie and Annika have arrived with the flowers. With an hour until doors open, we’re in the midst of a mad scramble to make the finishing touches to our stand. Anni has pulled out all the stops to create an incredible floral display for us, and then we’re good to go in the nick of time!
Time flies! Seven hours later and it’s all over already. We had a great time chatting to so many lovely couples and brides-to-be. It was really exciting to finally be able to showcase our plant styling service and products. It was exhilarating to watch the bridal fashion show and see how stunning our planter box backdrop looked, and then to see pictures start to appear on Instagram and Facebook.
Another real highlight of the day was meeting all the other incredible vendors. A big shout out to our neighbours Cliq Booth, Decorative Events and Angela Finn Marriage Celebrant, who were great fun to hang out with. A special mention too for Happy As Larry Pizza truck for the free Pizza (amazing stoned baked pepperoni – delicious)!!!
A big thank you to our two glamorous assistants on the stand today – Annika & Claire. Good job ladies!
Last, but by no means least, a really huge THANK YOU!! to Jess and the team at One Fine Collective for putting together such a spectacular event, and for including our little start-up business in your Big Day! We can’t wait to do it all again in February.
We’re exhausted, but so proud & happy with how the day went. Now to go and pack up the van and head home for a well-deserved sleep!
